The Dr. CL Smith Foundation aims to create and drive positive social change in previously disadvantaged and excluded areas in South Africa through Education, Sport and Health. We believe that these areas of focus support the objectives as outlined in the National Development Plan 2030 and are vital to the holistic development of young people, fostering their mental, physical, social and emotional health.

Our mission at the Foundation is to create more opportunities for more youth and women to be successful.

In order for us to eradicate poverty and remove the barriers of inequality as well as remain relevant in a global economy; our education system must be capable of capturing and developing talent at an equivalent pace to developed nations. This goal cannot be achieved via the current education system business model and without the effective use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) inside and outside the classroom. We recognize the need to provide better access to quality education for all through various tool-sets and partnerships with key stakeholders within the education sector that will enhance communication, sharing and collaboration among the various organizational groups within the schooling environment. Our mission is to create learning environments where educators can engage, motivate and inspire learners; where principals have a access to a community that promotes effective leadership and management in schools. The ultimate goal would be to improve learner performance and pass rates at all levels of basic education, thus increasing the numbers of high-caliber university graduates and ultimately the development of professionals that are able to participate in growing our economy.

Sport has a great impact on people and society - it can inspire, unite and bring people joy. Sport also plays a very important role in bringing about social change through community building, health promotion, educating youth and social inclusion. The sports sector can help address the challenges facing our economy by creating employment opportunities for people work as professional players, as well as opportunities for people to work in areas which are related to sports. It plays an integral part of child development and teaches youth to lead active, healthy lives while developing many of the fundamental skills necessary to succeed. The skills youth gain through sport carry’s into the larger community and serve children throughout their life, enabling them to become valuable contributing members of society. Competing at the highest level in any sport is an expensive business. Travel, equipment, training, coaching and physiotherapy – the costs soon add up. It is our hope that with the generous support of donors and partner organizations that the Dr. CL Smith Foundation will provide as much support as possible to help talented athletes reach their full potential.
